Learning More

Learning to scuba dive with the BSAC is available to anyone medically fit and over the age of 14. Parental approval is needed for anyone under the age of 18 years of age. Diver training programmes are available either through the BSAC's network of Branches (clubs) or BSAC Recognised Schools.

BSAC Branches conduct training over a number of weeks at weekly training sessions. If you learn with a Branch you can obtain the BSAC Ocean Diver status but you will need to join the BSAC as a member.

BSAC Schools offer the same training but as a full-time concentrated programme over a number of days.

BSAC Membership Benefits

Taking The Plunge

Once you have decided to learn to scuba dive the next decision is whether to go to your local Branch or School. Training will be at your own pace and each new lesson will be taught with safety as the key factor. The aim is to build confidence and self-reliance in each student.

Practical skills are linked to theory lessons, which are also part of the training course. The BSAC produces student study books and videos to accompany both the practical and theory lessons.
